Steps Involved When Undergoing a Detroit Hearing Test

When you visit us for a hearing test, you can expect to receive professional, friendly and prompt service that is 100 percent focused on you. Below are the steps taken when we provide you with a hearing test.

Lifestyle Assessment

We will ask you some questions about your lifestyle and hearing priorities so we can provide you with the individualized care you deserve. We will ask you about where you enjoy spending time, whether or not you enjoy watching TV, movies, or listening to music or lectures. We will also ask you about your work and what types of sounds you’re exposed to regularly. All of these questions will help us determine the type of hearing aid that is right for you.

Your Health and Hearing Health History

Many people are surprised to learn that their overall health can impact their hearing. There are several common health issues that can adversely affect your ability to hear. For example, people with hypertension, diabetes, and kidney disease often have some degree of hearing loss. To better understand your hearing history, we will ask you some general questions such as:

  • Do you have family members who have hearing loss?
  • Are both of your ears affected or just one?
  • Have you been subjected to chronic loud sounds during your life?
  • Do you have pain or ringing in your ears?
  • Do you find it difficult to follow conversations in certain environments?

We will also ask you about any medications you may be taking as some prescription medications can affect hearing. We encourage you to be open with us and tell us anything that pertains to your hearing.

Your Detroit Hearing Test

Your hearing test will actually include several tests designed to help us determine how well you can hear a variety of sounds including regular speech and tones. We will examine your ears using a special instrument called an otoscope. We will also provide you with an air and bone conduction test as well as a word discrimination test.

Once we have finished testing your hearing, we will discuss our findings with you and provide you with a proposed treatment plan/hearing aid. We encourage you to ask us questions and bring up any concerns you may have. It is important to us that you gain a good understanding of your treatment plan and that you’re comfortable with the hearing aid we provide you with.
