Your First Days With New Hearing Aids

When you first begin to wear your hearing aids, you will start the process of re-learning how to hear. Some patients adjust relatively quickly, while others may find that you need to spend some time practicing and getting used to using your new aids.

Depending on the length and severity of your hearing loss, your brain may need extra time to adjust new stimuli before it becomes “natural.” It is not uncommon for this to be a little overwhelming at first, but patients report that with some practice it becomes comfortable fairly quickly.

Improving Your Hearing Aid Experience

Dr. Pinnock and Dr. Seymour may recommend that you use your aid for limited periods of time as you adjust and continue to gradually increase the amount of time you wear the aids while maintaining your comfort. It may also help to start in a quieter environment with less ambient noise. Each situation and user has different needs, and users typically feel even more comfortable as time goes by.
